The
Azusa Adult School offers classes especially for
our senior population. At the Barranca
Avenue Campus students may enroll in enrichment
classes such as oil painting, china painting and
rug hooking. The classes are multi-level
and everyone is welcome.
Let
your creative juices flow in the creative design
classes. You can enroll in ceramics,
drawing and painting, hand knitting and crochet,
machine knitting and exercise at the Azusa
Senior Center, 740 Dalton Avenue in Azusa.
Ceramics:
Hand-building & Sculpture
Learn
to make wind chimes, jewelry, plant pots, dishes,
platters and
sculptures. Decorating techniques, slip, underglaze, glaze and overglaze are covered in
the course.
China
Painting
Students will learn decorating techniques of
painting on porcelain with emphasis on color and
design. This is a multi-level class.
Instruction is given in flowers, fruit,
portraits and landscapes.
Drawing
& Oil Painting
Students
will learn concepts of color, good composition and proportion
in painting figures, landscapes, still life and
other subject matters.
Drawing,
Painting & Illustration
Students will learn basic
drawing with charcoal, pencil, pen and
ink. Learn techniques in Prisma color,
pastel, water color and acrylic. Beginners are
welcome.
Portrait
Painting
Provides basic instruction on the representation
of the human head, but is not limited to
portrait painting. It includes instruction in
landscapes, seascapes, still life, painting
techniques, color mixing, and painting knife
effects.
Brain Fitness Program for Sharp Vital Minds
Strength training for the brain. This
computerized program helps you increase your
brains processing speed, improve your focus and
listening, increase memory and recall, and
strengthen your communication skills.
Brain Fitness Programs - INSIGHT
This version of brain fitness has the
emphasis on visual alertness.
Exercise
Classes
Daily from 9:15 - 10:45 am, this exercise
class consists of low impact aerobics, floor
work for toning, stretching to improve
flexibility, and free weights for strengthening
muscles.
Daily from 10:45 - 11:45 am, you can attend the chair
exercise class. This class provides
exercise for range of motion and
flexibility.
The instructor is certified by
the Arthritis Foundation.
Physical and Mental Fitness
Prepares older adults to function better in a
healthcare facility. The instruction provided
will assist the older adults in developing a
realistic outlook toward their lives.
Understanding
& Using Technology For
Older Adults:
Level I
This class is designed for the older adult to develop
basic skills necessary to operate a computer.
Programs such as Microsoft Office and
Windows will be introduced.
Understanding and Using Technology for Older Adults:
Level II
Basic computer skills will be reviewed. Windows,
MS Office, and the Internet. Learn how to create
and organize folders.
