Medical Coding & Billing Clerk

This Medical Coding & Billing Clerk one semester, 2-course program is designed to prepare students for employment as a Medical Insurance Coding & Billing Specialist in a hospital, medical care center, doctor's office, or an insurance agency.  Students are instructed in the complexities of reading, decoding, and coding of medical procedures for billing purposes. It includes classroom instruction with hands on training and online assignments.

 This program covers: Billing procedures and standard insurance claim forms; Risk Management; HCPCS/CPT coding and its principles; Computerized Billing; Claim Search; Authorizing Procedures; HIPAA (Privacy Act) Requirements; Chart Review; Abstracting of Inpatient Charges; Medical Terminology; and Anatomy & Physiology

 This program also prepares students to be qualified to apply for the American Association of Professional Coders (AAPC) Certified Professional Coder (CPC) Exam.  Students attaining this National Certificate receive compensation that is far above the average. This national certificate requires additional expenses, beyond class costs. At the end of the semester program, Medical Coding & Billing Students will receive a Medical Coding & Billing Program Certificate of Completion and be ready to work immediately as a Medical Coding & Billing Clerk.   

 Medical Terminology with Anatomy & Physiology is a pre-requisite course. It may be taken concurrently in the same semester.
